Wish Me Luck

In the midst of the resurgent virus, it’s been a slog to get through days. I know I’m not alone in this – all of my friends are saying the same. My friends from Trauma Camp, even moreso.

So I find it interesting that stories are coming back to me. I’m still stuck on the Fixit project, same place I’ve been for over a year: 120k words done on the first draft, two chapters and a small handful of sidebars remain. They’re mapped out, outlined nicely…and they just won’t come. I’ve expounded before here about how frustrating that is, so I’ll only repeat myself there.

In the meantime, I did try to participate in NaNoWriMo and ran into the same problem I always have: I don’t write well to deadlines. I write when the muse gives me attention. I write when there is no other way to express myself. I don’t crank out 2000 words a day like it’s nothing. I lasted three days before it was just a pile of shit coming out of my fingers and by the fourth day was gone.

But the idea that started there stayed…then merged with another idea I’ve apparently had floating around in me for over twenty years. And in that collision, the muse arrived again. A list of characters, a plot, a twist, and a theme…and a starting point. An introductory chapter is now written.

I’m sticking with the working title from my NaNo project: New Moon. It doesn’t fit where I’m going with it, but it keeps me from worrying over it. Cyberpunk romance; razorblade kisses. This is two days in a row that words have flowed and come out with some semblance of sense.

Wish me luck.
