It’s true! I’ve just finished going through the editing and contract portions of getting my work published for the first time. The work is a 400-word essay called “Bloody Chrysalis,” to be published in the forthcoming resource guide, Trans Bodies, Trans Selves 2.
I have to say that it was a major personal achievement for me to (mostly gracefully) submit to the editorial process. I understand the need, but it was seriously difficult to listen non-judgmentally to someone say, “It’s great, but we need to change…” the finely honed child of my mind. Someone who wasn’t a friend who was trying to help me get it accepted. And then to see what they were after, actually agree, offer a counter-proposal, and finish off the process. My therapist is proud of me.
In case it isn’t obvious, I’m doing the evil Muppet dance of supreme happiness.
